The real question

Simon mentions in his comment to my last post that Qasim has built a 'vast empire' and that he is a 'tycoon', whereas I am blowing a horn for vanity's sake. Why don't we ask ourselves the paramount question then? (before you throw in your comments, dear reader, I would like you to go through this.)

Here's the question which truly beckons answers:

  • What does Qasim have that we don't which has propelled him to his present-day stature as a successful businessman (was it his intellect, his ethics, his exuberant personality, his philanthropy or something else)?

And Simon, I have known you to be one of the most learned intellects in IT in the Maldives (and that's something that I have never failed to give you credit for). Given that, why were you not able to bring any of your IT business ventures to fruition?

It's because of Qasim?

servant boys who grow up to become suppliers to the palace have often become rich. history shows that happening often enought for me to believe that this is the reason for his success. In a level field, I do not believe that Qasim will have gone so far ahead of you and me and many like us...

gasim is a slimeball. period. seriously. the guy's got but one thing on his mind. girls, girls, more girls. i have proof. there was a time when he visited my university and met up with a bunch of maldivians. all he could do was eye up a girl's cleavage and resort to unintelligent remarks about a fellow mate's dad (who also happened to be gasim's employee) in front of everyone. gasim called his dad a psycho!!!you can imagine how the mate felt. when he concluded this trip he reportedly saw this famously voluptuous girl at the airport and offered her his toblerone!! (and i mean the chocolate -thank god) now, dont go defending that as an act of generosity (generosity Britney's virginity!) gasim's behavior was one akin to a pudding-head. forgive me if i see past his philanthropic nature for the eternal unrefined swellhead that he is. money doesnt make a person, it just makes their ego's.

Forty two. That's the answer to the ultimate question.

So this is a Qasimbe vs. DOS match. Have you figured out the exit stratergy yet? What's the win situation? 20 Frags?

Current score seems to be: Qasimbe 1, DOS 0.

bottom line:
who gives a shit if he's a slimeball shoobidoo. the guys filthy rich and who care's if he doesn't have a personality. He surely has an eye for oppertunity. And "assuming" if he was on a level field????? what's wrong with you guys?? Let's just assume each one of you had 10 resorts. Do you really need a personality to go ahead. Lemme tell you something personality goes a long way.. specially if you have nothing besides that. A billionare don't need personality. He's got everything that has made him what he is. If he was all that sweet to everyone makes him a different man and that would probably put him in a different timefield. Now he's not just filthy rich. He's the bloody Finance Minister too. Now now now. What do you think of that. And you Shafee... you've been calling him and he doesn't pick your phone??? Get out of here!! And Shoebeewho. Won't you love to wave your toblerone at a good looking chick if you had the guts to do it. An act of generosity!!!!! The only person who gives a girl toblerone out of generosity will be you doobeeshoo. Guys look at Girls cleevage. It's normal. Qasim is a guy. The point is he probably knows the line he's capable to cross, otherwise he won't be where he is now. He knows which which party to join and which party to reject, which resort to build and which to kick off and most of all which phone calls to take and which phone calls to ignore. He's a bad mouth yes, but he's probably not stupid and does he really need a personality.

Whats your point shafee, i don't really get you. Are you sad because he doesn't live up to your expectations. Is that it? What are you gonna do about it. Did you get offended because his cronnies offered you alot of money to get something done. Do you think they would offer you money if they thought you do shit work. Now, what are you giving them in return?

M, This is not a DOS vs Gasim fight. This seems to me more like a triple threat match for me. While reading all his "Cronicles" I felt the presence of a "third force" which I think Dosbe is reluctant or afraid to reveal. Thats my theory. I could be very wrong.
And speaking of great intellects in IT here in Maldives, Dosbe... where do you stand and what have you achieved? (no offence)

M said...

You felt the presence of a third force? What is this, the psychic friends network? May we know who it is through your insight now that DOS is afraid to indicate it.

anonymous@2:12am : Fact is, despite all the money that Qasim has and his undeniable political 'achievements' he remains a very impulsive person, so much so as to implicate a 'shmuck' (I hope that doesn't sound flamboyant) such as myself. If he has the right to do that, I have the right to speak up in my defense, don't you think?

gaanagaa: Let me know who it was that told you this 'Dosbe' was an intellect and I'll prove him wrong. As for the third force... let's just say the force isn't with me :)

Can we just kill him and get over with it. Do it slowly, i would love to hear him scream.

M, Since I am not much of an interllectual person, this insight-thing doesnt work with me.
There's nothing psychic about it. It can be either a part of Gasim or Dosbe himself.

Nobody told me about your interllect-icity. Its just this LINK on your blog that confused me.

M said...

So you are saying that maybe the third force you mentioned could be part of dos or part of qasim? What does this make?

Dos vs. Qasim vs. Part Dos (or Part Qasim)?

Hmmm... Confusing.

Anyway, here's my opinion to answer Dos's question, "What did Qasim have that we don't that propelled him to the present day status". Let's see. Luck. Fate. Backing by powerful authorities. Perhaps hard work. Opportunity. Luck.

Did I miss out on anything?

But shouldn't the real question have been "How does he remain in that status?"

FOUR wives.

you missed it. ;)

Good way to earn money. This will be over as soon as qasim pays few thousand dollars to whoever this blog belongs to!!

latest anonymous: that's another perception of maldivians that i want to change. not all maldivians (i deliberately omit other nationalities here) can be bought, and this blogger is definitely one who will not be deterred even in the face of millions (let alone thousands) of dollars. join me, i bequeath thee.

M said...

Dear Gaanagaa, I'm sure anyone here would vouch for it, that having four wives is a sure fire way to lose the money, and not gain it.

M, Youre right. Four wives will suck a big amount of money (together with other things). Question is, how can someone have four wives when he cant afford to, and to have a huge amount of money means to spend on his pleasures, leisures....or whatever it takes. Women cost money, also "Backing by powerful authorities."(like you said) cost money.
Someone to reach to that level (on a political ladder) wil cost millions.

DOS, I agree on that point. You cannot be easily "changed" with some amount of money.
Why do you need money? ...ehem

M said...

Hmmm. Perhaps the real question is, why the hell is all this wife thing our business? It is his money and if he wants to spend on getting his quota of wives, that is entirely his personal matter. And I think he's able to afford it since, he's been spending on them for quite a while.

And it doesn't cost millions to get into that political position. Especially in a small place like Maldives. Are you accusing him of bribing Maumoon to get a Ministerial position?

Qasim has become rich, and remained rich. So it's a question of "how"... and not "how many wives".

wad said...

It won’t cost millions? I guess you wont believe 1-5 million Rufiyaa spent by some members who raced for the recent parliamentary seats. I have seen some figures. If you think dredging of some lagoon(s) will cost just few hundred rufiyaas, think again.

As far as modern democracy is concerned, this is NOT bribery. And to answer a future question;
I am not aware of any Spas run by him, and I don’t recall one of his wives being a masseur.

The answer to your question is;

He is rich because he has got a huge chunk of money and for the fact, he knows what money is. He will be rich because he knows how and where his money should be spent.

M said...

Finally... an answer.

wad said...

Man you know when to ignite and when to flush. hehe

btw... where did DOS and Simon go? Having coffee with four wives?

qasim, simons dad, they are all same :)
